JANUARY 24TH, 2010 - COD TRIP

Ray's first fishing trip of 2010, 6.30 am for breakfast - 7am aboard the boat. Talking to the lads on the way out being asked questions about the day before and having to let them know that it was a bad day with just two dabs and two whiting the total catch for their day. Not to put too much of a dampner on their day, I suggested we would look somewhere different and try our best. Anchor down and within the first half hour, the first cod was boated. It was only about 4 lbs but hey, look at the day before! This continued to be a steady flow with fish being landed up to 9 lbs throughout the day. The skipper isn't always right and likes to be proved wrong! Good day had by all. I look forward to seeing them next month.

SEEVIC CHARTER DAWNBREAKER FOR COD - 7TH NOVEMBER 2009

6.30 am in Yacht Haven Cafe for full English to start the day off. On Dawnbreaker for 7 am in search for some Thames Estuary Cod. Weather was not quite what was predicted but hey, it never is! We pushed off as far as weather would allow and soon enough we were into Cod and Codling. Most of the fish ranging from 3 lbs to 8 lbs with two 12 lb Cod adding to their collection. Dogfish and Whiting proved to be quite a nuisance for part of the day with the odd Thornback making an appearance.

23RD OCTOBER - 8 YEAR OLD LOUIS LANDS THIS SPECIMEN COD OF 11 LB 8 OZ

Boarding Dawnbreaker bright and early, mixed party of anglers on the hunt for some Cod. Started off pretty slow until the last 3 hours of the day when the Cod started biting fast and furious with a total of 30 Cod and a dozen Skate being landed. A superb specimen of 11 lbs 8 oz going to 8 year old Louis making it the biggest fish of the day. What more could you ask for but to see 8 grown men cry with envy to be shown how it's done!

Well done Louis - look forward to seeing you again one day - from Skipper, Rob. D.B.C

COD FISHING ABOARD CHARTER BOAT DAWNBREAKER III

4th October - Trevor Jones' angling party have been hiring Dawnbreaker for fishing in the Thames Estuary once a month for the past fourteen years. They started their Cod season with two nice double figure specimens of 10 lb and 10 lbs 2oz- the like of which they have not seen for many years. As the Charter Skipper, I only hope this is not a short lived Cod season and I would like to see this size of Cod return to the Thames Estuary, River Crouch and Blackwater as it was many years ago.

THAMES ESTUARY COD FISHING OFF TO A GOOD START

Tuesday 29th September - as per usual off-shore fishing is what we wanted to do but the weather was not allowing us to do that until the last 2.5 hours of the day as at 3.30 pm decided to go the distance trying to find those bigger Cod. Coming up trumps with Dennis (left) with his 12 pounder and Trevor pipping him to the post in the last half hour with his cracking cod of 15 lbs! Let's hope this and better things to come in the coming months of the Cod season in the Thames Estuary, Essex coast.

HAUL OF COD - 27TH SEPTEMBER

Started off with breakfast at 6.00 am on board for 6.30 am
Off shore fishing for cod was the intention as weather permitted to do so. Fishing was hard for the first part of the day with smoothhounds, whiting and thousands of dogfish coming aboard. Moved off for a flood mark and low and behold we found them. With 20 cod being boated with four fish into double figures, one of 10 lbs, 10 lbs, 10 lbs 8 and 11 lbs 14 - what more could you ask for - happy faces all round.

THURSDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER

Set out at 7am after a nice English breakfast from the Yacht Haven Cafe in search of some early Cod and Thornback Rays. Got set up on the mark and about 15 mins of setting up we were into our first Thornback Ray. From then on it was a steady day with Thornbacks coming aboard with the odd Cod to 5 lbs being landed, with an added bonus of a 5 lb Bass going to the always lucky Skipper.

Weather was absolutely superb with temperatures reaching t-shirt conditions -can't ask for much more than sun, sea and fish! Everyone went home very happy and looking forward to their next trip when the main species should be Cod.

In this photo - Johnny and his lads from work displaying some of their catch of the day.
